ALL INDIA BLIND WELFARE WEEK

The week begins from the auspicious ‘Shiva Chaturdashi’ Day, which is the birthday of the Late Swami Asimananda Saraswati, founder of the event. He dedicated his Birthday to the welfare of the sightless and instructed his disciples and devotees-‘Observe my birthday through your selfless service to the blind’.

Impelled by an intense urge to serve the entire blind population of the country, Swamaji started observing a Blind Welfare Week from 1967 .On an annual basis funds are collected nationally and distributed amongst different Blind Welfare Organisation /Institutions in the country, .The Society has not only kept this up for the last 35 years but also made a considerable headway towards the founder’s objective.

As per the desire of Swamiji 50% of the distributable has since been handed over to the Netaji Eye Hospital and the remaining 50% has been distributed amongst our other enlisted Blind Welfare Institutions. As ordained by our Founder, Swami Asimananda Saraswati, we have been observing All India Blind Welfare Week in this country for the last 35 years to raise mass conciousness about the plight of the sightless, highlighting their problems and despairs

41ST ALL INDIA BLIND WELFARE WEEK

The objectives of All India Welfare Week are :

  • To uphold the cause of blindness permanently before the people in general by publicity through meetings, symposiums and powerful media and thereby involve the countrymen to combat the scourges of blindness.

  • To render free treatments to eye patients in the rural areas with Eye Specialists by holding Eye Camps through Mobile Medical Units.

  • To draw the attention of school teachers, as well as parents and guardians of children to the visual impairment and eye problems and to impress on them the necessity of taking prompt action.

  • To devise ways and means of rehabilitation for the sightless.
To publicise the above mentioned measures through the press and Audio-visual Mass Media.

  • To draw the attention of the Central and the State Governments to extend their active support to the visually handicapped in collaboration with private organisations.

  • To raise funds from the public, Institutions and other sources through special drives during the Week, for the welfare of the sightless people who need education & rehabilitation
